Toolgrain welcomes bug reports, documentation improvements, and focused changes. Start with the repository’s contribution policy and Code of Conduct. Report security vulnerabilities privately using the security policy.

Propose a change

Search existing issues first. For a bug, include a minimal reproduction, package/runtime versions, and expected versus actual behavior. Discuss feature and API changes in an issue before investing in a large implementation. The roadmap separates implemented capabilities from proposals.

Prepare a pull request

Fork the repository for an external contribution and create a branch before editing. Use Node.js 24.20.0 or a newer supported 24.x release and the repository’s pinned Bun 1.3.14 package manager.
Keep changes focused. Include documentation and tests when behavior changes, preserve upstream notices, and keep generated reports out of the diff. Follow development and verification for the checks appropriate to your change and architecture for package boundaries.

Improve the documentation

The Mintlify site lives in docs/. Edit its MDX pages and navigation in docs/docs.json. With the Mintlify CLI installed, run from the repository root:
Validate with mint validate and mint broken-links from that directory, then bun run check from the repository root. Test changed commands against supported runtimes and review desktop/mobile rendering. Preserve dated compatibility evidence and distinguish it from current support commitments. The site uses Mint’s native appearance with Toolgrain artwork and approved accent colors. Markdown forwarding pages preserve existing GitHub guide URLs; edit the linked MDX guide instead of creating a second copy.

Record release intent

Published-library changes, including packaged READMEs, need a Changeset. Repository-only changes use an empty record. Do not manually bump versions or edit generated package changelogs.
During 0.x, compatible fixes use patch records; features and breaking changes use minor records. Publication uses a separately reviewed Changesets Release PR. See releases for the current automated workflow and recovery. Explain the problem, resulting behavior, and validation in your PR. CI must pass before merge. Toolgrain-owned contributions use the repository’s MIT license; third-party material retains its upstream terms.
